Question

Countertop Bar Extension

Seeking Advice!

This is my kitchen. It has a raised ledge already & I'd love to turn it into a breakfast bar. Anything I research starts a flat countertop where they need to build the heigher bar frame, but I already have the height.

Am I allowed to put a counter ontop of the raised ledge and secure it to the frame that's already there via l-brackets/corbels or is that a terrible idea?

Any/all advice welcome

Re: Countertop Bar Extension

Well, I'm not a pro, but I would not cover the counter ledge.
I would mount the new breakfast bar immediately under the
counter with corbels on the dining room side. You still would
have counter space available on the ledge to place serving
dishes, etc... the new breakfast bar need only be about
14 - 15" deep ( a dinner plate is about 10" round)

What is the counter material? Do you
want contrast? I would make this counter and corbels out of
wood and stain it to match your cabinets.

Another option -- If you want to use the same countertop material, I found
these stainless steel corbels...
