Assembling Kitchen Cabinets

Hi:

I want to install base kitchen cabinets in our bedroom for storage. I went to Lowes, HD and a local cabinet shop to shop around. All 3 places were the type that Lowes and HD have to let you guys know what type of cabinets I'm looking at. My question is, how hard is it to assemble myself? I'm assuming they come with instructions and how good are the instructions?

I have all the tools and basic knowledge of woodworking.

Let me know your experience.

Thanks!!

Re: Assembling Kitchen Cabinets

Assembling cabinet parts is pretty straight forward. Yes, they come with instructions and parts layouts. After you assemble the cabinets, do you have a contingency for the top? You'll need to order or make a countertop to cover the void.

Re: Assembling Kitchen Cabinets

I used to write user guides and instruction manuals for a living.

A lot of instructions out there today are not very good. A lot of them are written in Chinese or Vietnamese or whatever, and then translated into English, often by someone not 100% fluent in English. So be prepared to be frustrated.

For many products sold at HD and Lowes, you can actually download and review the instructions online before you buy it. If you are concerned, try that.

If needed, there are many videos on U-Tube showing RTA cabinet assembly.

Re: Assembling Kitchen Cabinets

With your tools and skill set you will be fine. Before you start make sure all the hardware has been included and be prepared to work with any predrilled holes that have not been drilled accurately. Sometimes the directions aren't too well done so read through them all to get a good picture of how everything fits together.
Question, as a woodworker with the tools why not build your own?
