48" vanity in small bathroom

Our new vanity is 48" and is on four legs. I want to place it about 5 inches from the side wall so there would not be a side splash, only a back splash. My husband thinks it has to go right up against the side wall. I want it to look like a cabinet with a wood framed mirror above it. What do you think about placing it 5 or 6 inches off the side wall.
