Is it wrong to leave pressure gauges permanently under pressure

My house has an older pressure reducing valve that still seems to work okay. I was reading the old install manual for it, and it states that the pressure gauges should not remain under pressure, but should be isolated by a valve. Mine do not have isolating valves.

Is it wrong to leave the gauge under normal pressure? It seems I've seen lots of gauges besides mine installed without a separate valve.

And even if there were a valve, when you shut it off, you'd just be sealing it at that same pressure. To relieve it, you'd have to loosen the gauge itself.

Any thoughts?

I guess it would depend on the manufacturer of the gauge, but domestic water systems have a gauge that is constantly under varying amounts of pressure. So do air compressors.

The gauges will eventually quit reading due to build up on material leading to the diaphragm of the gauge. In other words they get stuck. Gauges are cheap and easily unscrewed and replaced as needed.
