Why should I start with 3/4 and branch to 1/2

Is there any disadvantage/advantage to run the whole house with 1/2 inch pex or start with 3/4 and branch with 1/2?

The pressure loss per foot of pipe is lower with 3/4 inch pipe than for 1/2 inch pipe for a given flow rate. It makes little difference for low draw fixtures like a toilet, it may be a problem for high draw fixtures like a shower or hot tub.
