Wheres cold water?

Daughters main vanity sink doesnt have cold water. Its a Moen faucet, one handle.

Turned left there is hot water. Turned right it just shuts off, which is strange as this single handle usually comes on an shuts off by pulling up or pushing down.

Im thinking the cold water valve is shut off. Probably (based on rest of house plumbing) cause it leaks. I tried turning the valve but its rusted shut an I know forcing it will likely cause leaks.

Would there be another reason for not having cold water?

The vanity has a replacement floor base inside so therr has been water damage in the past.

Thank you

Re: Wheres cold water?

Replace the shut off valve.

It was leaking and the previous owner shut it off, and then it corroded over to ruin it.

Have seen it happen TOO many times.

They just replaced the floor to hide the fact that there was a leak, and hoped that the buyer would not realize that there will be needed work.

Re: Wheres cold water?

It could be many things. Start with the stop valve. Then the hose, which is unlikely. Last would be the cartridge/ports in the faucet. If you need to replace the stop valve, I'd go with a 1/4 one. If you go with a multi turn one, make sure you close and open it once a year to keep it from sticking and seizing. Brass Craft multi turn valves have cheap rebuild kits.

Re: Wheres cold water?

Cleaning and lining this vanity I found 'another' puddle of water. Discovered a joint connection near the trap isn't sealed.

Interesting that theres another vanity on other side of the room and it doesn't have cold water either.

I made signs with problems, taped above each sink and told her she need a plumber not a mother.

Re: Wheres cold water?

Since you now have more than one faucet w/o cold, it's likely there is a branch line shut off valve that is closed. But is also likely closed due to a leak somewhere.

Yodaman.
Just curious. Since this is Florida and houses are on a slab, where would a branch line likely be? I haven't noticed any extra shutoffs in garage. Could they be outside?

This just happens to be the bathroom with the bad water hammer problem.

The smaller vanity has a bad bow near the bottom and visible water damage in the past.

Re: Wheres cold water?

Is there a utility closet in the area, maybe with a HW tank or heater? I wouldn't expect anything outside.
It could also just be that both stop valves are off under the vanities. Do you have cold water elsewhere in the house?
