What's Rusty HerE?

We've had a Guerdon modular for over 15 years up here in the Colorado Rockies with no problems, partly because we've added to it and almost rebuilt and replaced nearly everything both inside and out. We've replaced all plumbing fixtures except the central bathtub, which gets very little use.

Recently we noticed a slug of rusty water from the spout when either faucet is turned on. Is this most likely a cheap faucet? Could it possibly be just the spout itself? If so, can it be unscrewed and replaced? I ask because a new faucet system will require cutting into the wall from the bedroom side to access the thing. Thanks.

What type plumbing?
Any steel pipes used anywhere?
Whens the last time you flushed the water heater?

What is your water source? Municipal or a well?

We here in the mountains have VERY HARD water.

And after 15 years or so mine starts to have scale build-up in the pipes,
which occasionally comes loose and runs as a rusty looking mess

And needs the occasional flushing of the system.

I mentioned it was a modular as they don't come with copper, etc. No metal to my knowledge until you get to the fittings at the faucets. That's the best I can tell you because basically, I don't know.

The WH is a high end one, a Rheem Marathon non-metallic, installed four or five years ago, so nothing there.

We are on a well, but its water is primo. Even the Culligan man's test showed it soft and we get no discoloration or build up.

I can't find a brand on the faucet but I'm guessing it's low quality.
