what is this pump for?

Hi,
I have a pump and bladder tank in my crawl space. Initially, i thought it was a sump pump to clear the crawl space of water but upon closer inspection it looks like a pump to boost water pressure. The suction and discharge would both be tied to the domestic water line. But either the suction or discharge (don't know which) is not connected so obviously not currentlyin use. And there is a pop valve sending water under ground to a drain i guess. Attached is the picture. is this for boosting water pressure?

thanks!

I have seen a similar setup in a homes with a well. In that case it is used to boost the water pressure throughout the home.

I live on a hill with poor water pressure, when I bought the place it had a similar set up but the pump was busted [previous owner let it freeze]

Re: what is this pump for?

That is definitely a domestic water pump not a sump pump.
It is used either for pumping water from the ground well or boosting water pressure from a city line.

The outlet line does not appear to be connected.
