What is this copper pipe?

What is the copper pipe for? It's right next to a waste drain that drains two bathroom sinks one floor up. [I plan to drain a bathroom sink in the basement into it.]

I'm not too worried about it as the townhouse is 15 years old and it doesn't seem to have caused any problems but I'm curious (I hate unexplained artifacts in my house).

Heck if I know. Might have been the high pressure relief or something.

I would cap it just in case as you don't want sewer gases perking up.

Based on the flattened top I'd say it was a make shift stake to hold the pipe in position as they poured the slab- been there, done that

Re: What is this copper pipe?

Ok. That makes sense as it was wrapped to the PCV with duct tape. I figured the tape was to keep the concrete off the pipes but, yes, I'll bet the tape was to keep the pipes together and hold the PCV in place.

Silly me. I use leftover rebar. Whatever's handy.

Thanks.

And if it is a stake, it is useless as a drain.
