Well pump running more frequently

My well pump seems to be running more frequently. I will hear it kick on when no water was used for several hours. Thanks in advance.

Re: Well pump running more frequently

I did some research online and my pressure tank appears to be fine. No water coming from the schrader valve and I checked the psi. The reason I post is that in the past when I lost power I would have water but this last time there was no pressure and the pressure gauge was at 0.

Re: Well pump running more frequently

Pump runs for a short while then off then repeats?
Most likely a water logged pressure tank or the blander is shot.

Turn the pump off, drain the tank and see if water continues to come out and what the pressure is at the top of the pressure tank with tire gauge.

Could be the foot valve at the pump has a rock or something and will not close and it is letting pressure off when the pump stops.

Now go forth and trouble shoot.

You'll only see water out of the schrader valve if the the bladder is completely full of water.

I had the same symptoms last year with our water tank. After weeks of accessing it in the crawl space and doing diagnostics we found the bladder had a very small hole. It would take a full day for it to change 2 psi. And 2 psi is the difference between "It's ok" and "It needs replaced".

We never did get water out of the schrader valve.... yet the bladder was slowly leaking.. ever so slowly filling with water.

Here's a link to more discussion on that, there's diagnostic video's and other such helpful stuff in the thread... https://www.diychatroom.com/f7/water...issues-641311/

Good Luck!

Possibly there is a leak causing the pump to run when no water is being used.

No leaks inside the house that I can find. I drained the tank and checked the pressure and it seems fine. I thought maybe the check valve by the pressure tank might be bad but unsure.

Re: Well pump running more frequently

Was there 2 lbs less than the low number of the pressure switch?
You where also talking about the check valve at the pressure tank, if it and the foot valve are not seating then it will back drain into the well.
If the gauge is working at all it will lose pressure once the pump stops, might take a few minutes but it will drain back into the well.

Seems fine tells us nothing.

This needs more clarity. If you had water with no power you were probably just using up the residual pressure in the tank. If you lose power and advertently or inadvertently use the water, it will draw it down to zero or darned close (it can happen just by muscle memory - like flipping a light switch during a power failure). If your foot or check valve is allowing pressure to bleed off, you would have noticed it before the lights went out.

The pressure in the tank seemed fine. The idea of it draining back to the tank seems like a possibility. The check valve connects to the Tee and to the white plastic well pipe coming from outside. Thanks!
