Water pressure is low in kitchen only??

The water is working but seems to be coming out at half the strength in the kitchen faucet only. Bathroom sink and tub are fine. Any clues as to why this might be, how to locate the problem and fix it? Thanks

PS - not very handy but can check things out.

Re: Water pressure is low in kitchen only??

Although the aerator screen doesn't actually affect pressure at that point, it does affect flow ( volume ) and it being a filter, that is often the first item suggested to check for restriction. It sometimes un-screws with difficulty if plumber's grease wasn't applied to the threads during assembly, and it usually isn't.

Seniors place would be the first place I'd look....

(The second would be the angle stop valve... (by checking the flow rate directly out of the angle stop valve... you can at least determine if the restriction is in the faucet or not.)

Re: Water pressure is low in kitchen only??

After taking the areator off, take it apart but lay each piece in a line so you know how to put it back together. The plastic part inside is usually 2 piece and if you take it apart you will typically find small mineral grains blocking up some of the holes, or even a piece of the rubber washer blocking the main hole. I would also recommend that, wher the aerator has been removed, put the stopper or strainer in the sink and turn both the hot and cold on full blast to bkow out any debris that might be in there. Sometimes the rubber washer doesnt come out with the aerator but will come out when you blow water thru. Worst case is to take the old one to home depot or lowes and buy a new aerator for a couple of bucks.
