Water Line too Deep

Inspector making me put in a water pressure reducer. An older house so must put it in near meter. The water line is 42" below surface. I consulted a plumber he said putting in some elbows to bring it closer to the surface will not hurt water flow very much. The other solution is to get a skeptic tank type enclosure to go that deep. FYI.

Re: Water Line too Deep

Welcome to the forum Tim.

Must be the way everything was set-up back then. Idk. Seems like the inspector and plumber from your area would know the best solution.

Please wait for the plumbers to respond, they may be able to help you further.

Re: Water Line too Deep

The way I did was to put it after the meter. I'm not a plumber and don't know any rule about how it should be done. But if reducer goes before the meter, you're being asked to protect the meter - which sounds like it's the water company's job.
BTW, a gauge on the outlet side is a must for adjustment.

New one on me. To me they belong in the house, basement or utility room. Can't imagine why you would bury it.

Re: Water Line too Deep

the PRV is in a hole in the ground because there was no other place to put it. It has a cover over it. Lift the cover and you have access to the PRV.
