Water Heater replacement

Iím replacing an electric water heater thatís in a closet in the kitchen of our single story ranch. The current heater doesnít have a drain pan and the pressure relief valve isnít connected to a drain. Iím going to get a Bradford White that has a diameter of 22Ē. What size of drain pan should I use? Can I run pvc from the pressure relief valve to drain into the drain pan? Can I drain the drain pan directly into the crawl space? Any other tips for this project?

Re: Water Heater replacement

If your pan has a proper drain, a 24/26" pan should be fine. Not sure what your code requires, but CPVC should meet any code for a T&P and pan drain. Not sure if a crawlspace is OK to drain to. I'd run it out past the foundation and have the end where I could see it and easily clean it out. I've seen them blocked up with mud dauber nests. Maybe use a screen on the end of it. Fl code requires CPVC & PVC pipes outside to be painted.
