is this up to code for Texas?

is this kitchen pipe up to code? My plumber said is not. he has to reconfigure the plumbing for the new kitchen sink and he says he cannot cut it because of the patchwork that was previously done by other owners. he wants to open up the wall and replace that pipe.

Re: is this up to code for Texas?

The fact that it already leaked and was patched tells you it has outlived it's useful life.

The patch is hack work. Nobody patches that piece. It is cheap and simple to replace (until somebody patches it).

No self respecting plumber would want to leave that piece there. People might think he did it. He also knows it is going to leak again.

You will have a lot longer period of trouble free use of the sink by replacing it now.

I would also bet that if its not done now, it will cost you more when it's leaks and you call a plumber in to fix it after failure.
