Tub spout splashing water?

My bathtub spout is spraying water around the back of bath rim and onto the floor, what could be wrong. This is a spout without the diverter.

Re: Tub spout splashing water?

There is a leak in the pipe coming out of the wall and going into the spout, or a leak at the joint where the spout is fastened to the pipe coming out of the wall or a leak in the spout itself just after where the pipe from the wall is fastened.

Re: Tub spout splashing water?

My first guess would be someone cheaped out and used a galvinized nipple to make the connection from the spout to the elbow.
Old steel pipes will leak at some point 100% of the time.

Some spout assemblies use an o-ring to seal the spout to the nipple coming from the wall as well. Depends on the style of spout you have. See if there is a set screw in the bottom of the spout where it meets the wall.
