Is this a Trap?


Is this a trap?Never seen one like this, My Tub drain is going down very slow and this is on the line. Does that bottom silver plate screw off to clean this?Can't get it off its very tight.

yep, yep and yep, going to need a good size wrench and a large bucket.
It is going to be a bit messy!
You should de-energize those circuits that feed the wires directly under the clean out plug.

Most likely there will be a gasket. You won't know what condition it is in until you inspect it.
When you re-assemble it brush the seal and mating surfaces with white teflon plumbers paste, it will help seal things back up.

That is what is called a drum trap.

I would strongly suggest you cut the drum trap out and replace with a P trap.
