Toto Drake toilet, unbelievable !

If you're in the market for a new toilet and are considering the Toto Drake like I did because of positive reviews; well, you might want to read my post on another forum.

Never used them. I've had great flushes with my American Standard Right height Cadet.

I just received my Drake II from Amazon (and not broken).

Already have another one in use....I like them. Low water usage..easy to clean..and do a good job of getting the 'goods' down the drain.

Toto Drake toilet, what a joke !!!

I didn't realize that posting a link to another site was not allowed.

Anyway, here is my review of the Toto Drake toilet.

I researched toilets for quite a while, using this site and others and from that research, concluded that the Toto Drake toilet was the one I wanted.

So yesterday, I went to a Toto dealer and purchased a Toto Drake toilet.

It was the model at this link on the Toto website.

Today, I unpacked the toilet to install it. WOW, UNBELIEVABLE !!!

First thing that I noticed was that the toilet wobbled on the floor, I mean not just a little wobble, but 1/4 inch.

Then I turned the toilet over to see if I could determine why it was so out of kelter.

At that point, things went from bad to very bad. At the discharge of the toilet, there is a crack that goes 1/3 the way around the trapway.

Then I noticed that the inside of the trapway is as rough as a corncob. Not only that, but at the very end of the trapway, there is a 1/4 inch lip (very convenient for catching solids to clog at that point.

Then I turned the toilet back upright and discovered that the glaze in the bowl goes just barely past where you can see. If you stick your finger in just a little ways, the trapway there is also as rough as a corncob.

If you clicked on the link above, you'll notice that one of the stated features is a 'fully glazed trapway'.

Well, tomorrow it goes back to the dealer.

How people give this toilet a thumbs up is beyond me !

That sounds like a defect model. Totos are know for quality. I myself have an Aquia III that has never clogged in the 4 years I've owned it.

I installed a pair in the church I attend. 500 people a weekend and the plunger is collecting dust.

Yours must have been made on a Friday

Well, the crack and the wobble are definitely defects, that's for sure.

But why would Toto's website advertise this model with a fully glazed trapway and it be not only not glazed, but very rough ?

Are you sure it's a real Toto and not a fake?

If someone can sell fake circuit breakers....I wouldn't put it past them to sell fake crapers.

I own a Toto Aquia. Great clog resistance, perfect fit and finish. The Drake's are highly regarded, over at Terry Love's forum.

Re: Toto Drake toilet, unbelievable !

Indeed, I ordered 3 Drake toilets. Very poor.

Water tank lids warped, had to use bumper shims. One tank had a slightly different lid, that did not follow the tank's curvature. Bowl was not glazed in the inside siphon.... and I paid a premium for the better glaze. Bowl was not flat on floor, had to add extra shims to level. Very poor indeed. All 3 made in Mexico. Installed in May 2017, and the inside stains, and hard to clean. Had Duravit in the past, and never had an issue. Never again. Toto claims they have global factories, and this accounts for variances. 'Caveat emptor'.
