Toilet and Tub Recommendations?

Love to hear some expert opinions here. My mother-in-law is doing a bathroom reno and asked me for recommendations on brands of toilets and tubs. Knowing her she's not looking to spend a lot of money so quality/value would be the focus.

Toilets: She really wants to know what is a good brand. I've heard some good things about American Standard and have had good luck with the Champion 4 as a reasonably priced model. She's wondering if Kohler is any good?

Tub: She uses the tub a lot. It's a pretty typical 5' rectangular tub. She has no interest in whirlpool jets or anything like that (doesn't want to mess with plumbing an electricity). So I think she needs something that easily goes into the existing space but is good quality for an affordable price. She's very interested in what the difference is in the different materials. Are there any online vendors that have good deals?

Thanks!

Knowing her she's not looking to spend a lot of money so quality/value would be the focus. This quest can be construed as contradictory. While I prefer Kohler over American Standard, there are other options. Rely on your local trusted Plumber to give you options for which one to purchase. There are many features that you will want to be aware of to make the best decision for your family. I would opt for a toilet with a 3" or greater (Douglas) Flapper Valve. I know the American Standard has a 4" but other companies have larger valves too. Do your own research and then call your trusted plumber for his recommendations. Measure from the wall to the current toilet closet bolts to see if it is a 12" rough. Can be 11" from the finish wall. Good luck.

Re: Toilet and Tub Recommendations?

I have had great success with Gerber Viper toilets in all of my rental properties and in my own home. I still have one Koehler toilet in my home and by far I prefer the Gerber for flushing ability. If it matters, I also prefer the elongated bowl style. Just my 2 cents.
