Toilet level drains after flushing

After flushing the toilet the water level drains almost empty. It always stop at the same level, and when it gets to that point it makes a short hissing sound for a couple seconds. When the water is that low the next flush doesnt actually flush. Rather it gurgles a bunch of air up. The toilet will refill and less than a couple minutes its back to where it was.

Ive attached a pic of where the water stops everytime.

2 bathroom house, no other plumbing issues.

Re: Toilet level drains after flushing

Sounds like it's siphoning out. It stops when an air gap is created and you hear the hissing.

Is this a new problem?
Is there a vent line attached to the drain line?

The problem has occurred in the past. And it seemed to fix itself. It's back and been around for awhile now.

There are a couple vents on the roof near the toilet. In close proximity of the toilet is 2 sinks, a shower, and a tub. So not sure what vent goes to what.

Look upon the roof and see if you have a birds nest built on the vent lines.

Something is plugging the vent, so that the flush continues to siphon the water after it's finished.

Maybe the flush mechanism is not filling the bowl properly, but it sounds more like a poor vent problem.

Make sure the water level in your toilet tank is where it is supposed to be.

get a pale and slowly fill the bowl to its level slowly so you don't create a vacuum mark it and wait make sure one is using water any ware in the house if it drains out you've got a bad toilet if not look for venting issues.

Re: Toilet level drains after flushing

You do not have venting issues affecting your toilet. You have a common partial clog, that's it. Use a plunger or toilet auger to clear. If that fails, remove toilet and check for obstructions in toilet trap.

I agree. However I don't think it is in the toilet trap. I think it is in the toilet arm before the vent. When you flush the second time, the second flush water pushes air in the pipe back up and out the toilet bowl.

Pull toilet and snake. Easy snake job.
