toilet for the basement

anyone in this forum ever install a "horizontal flush" toilet? you know,a toilet which discharges out the back rather than the bottom. this is for my basement. in the old days before this type of toilet came about, people usually put a regular toilet on a concrete pad sticking a foot off the floor.(uglyyyy)
my question is really who makes the good ones and do they install as easy as a standard toilet? I've looked at "macerating" toilets also. (they grind up the waste so you can use a regular drain as opposed to 4") this type of toilet is pretty expensive and seems to be very complicated to say nothing of the mess when it breaks and someone has to fix it.
we need a toilet downstairs since the one that was down there is now part of an apartment and is no longer accessible.
