Swaging tool help

Hi. I purchased an IWIS swaging tool; to me it looks similar to Hilmor's 1839015. I'm attempting to swage type M 1/2" copper. Using the 1/2" adapter it bottoms out before I can even detect a noticeable expansion. By bottom out I mean I'm having to use two hands and it looks to me the adapter reaches the end of its travel. Just for curiosity I toyed with the 5/8" adapter, which splits the tubing early-on into the swage. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

Re: Swaging tool help

If it split the copper, it means that it was hard drawn copper. All fittings will be hard drawn. They must be anealed first.

If you mean one of these, then you must use the right sized tip.

If you mean one of these then the clamp has to be tight enough.

Cheers!
