With a 75 gallon tank you're really close to the 80 gallon change over. It Probably wouldn't hurt anything using the smaller one, but for safety, I would use with the bigger 5 gallon expansion tank if it were me. Just my thoughts.

Whether it's 2 or 5 gallon, as you have mentioned, they can very heavy when full of water, so make sure it's supported properly.
