Sump Pump Discharge Pipe

Today I had to repair my sump pump discharge pipe. I don't know what the grey stuff was that removed. My house was built in the late 80's and has aluminum siding. Can someone recommend what I should use to seal the area around the PVC pipe on the exterior of my house? Thanks in advance.

Re: Sump Pump Discharge Pipe

Be wary of anything too strong. It will strip the paint right off that siding. I would start with something like Goo Gone.

Ok guys, I tried goo gone. It didn't work nor did scraping it. You all think it would be safe to just go over it with the duct seal?

Imo, Yes. You can always paint it so it's not so noticeable.

I'm confused. I'm talking about leaving what's left of the old putty and just going over the putty with new putty.

So am I. You got what you could off. I don't see any problems with adding new putty. It will bond with the old. Then paint if needed. Just a suggestion and my opinion only.

Others may not agree with me.

Oh I see now. Sorry for the silly questions. I work I an office and have limited knowledge these things. I hadn't considered the new color versus the old. My question was more abound bonding than anything else.
