Subermersible utility pump not pumping

We have a Pacific Hydrostar Utility Pump and for the first week of using it, it was fine. Now it's not quite working properly. Without a hose attached it pumps perfectly. But as soon as we attach any hose to it, no water pumps through. It sounds like it's pumping, just nothing comes out.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sounds like a seal or the impeller needs replacing.

Re: Subermersible utility pump not pumping

Thanks for the reply. Would these cause it to only pump with no hose attached?

Re: Subermersible utility pump not pumping

I checked the impeller and inside and everything is fine. No blockages at all. Without a hose it pumps water through fine. Just when I attach a hose to it no water comes through the hose. I tried putting the hose on an outdoor spigot and it has no blockage in the actual hose. Could it be an airlock in the hose or somewhere in the pump? The model we have doesnt have a check valve so I can't examine that. It's really a frustrating problem. Thanks for all the replies.

Re: Subermersible utility pump not pumping

What's the lift that you're trying to get out of this pump? Have you tried just a short piece of hose? No lift, say out of a bucket?

Impellor style pumps lose their lift capacity when their clearance to the housing is too large. (from the intake opening to the impellor) sounds like something came loose.

If it's the same pump as below, 23' is the max height. It's unlikely that you'll even have half of that. Including the resistance of the hose. An air bubble in the hose won't cause a problem. The design of the pump will keep bubbles out of the impellor.
