soil stack

I was wondering on a 1100 sq. ft house bath and 1/2, the main septic line comes in the basement is 4"pvc then goes up and not yet threw the roof, still under construction, but can this 4" pvc be reduced to 3" to go threw the roof? thanks

Re: soil stack

Why?

Doubt it can but I wouldn't want to in the first place.

Re: soil stack

we think a 4" pipe would look huge coming out of the roof, and most places have 3", was just wondering if reducing down to 3" going out of the roof would cause a problem. thanks

Re: soil stack

Sorry, a little tired and think I totally mis-read this - you're talking about the vent? I was thinking the waste pipe (yeah, I know, why would it go through the roof?).

Do you have a plumber doing this? If so, he will size it right.

UPC requires the cross section area of the vent system to equal the diameter of the building drain. This can be achieved by more than one vent though.

You didn't mention your model code so your area may have different requirements

a 4" line right in front of you looks rather large, but from the street, not really a issue (IMHO)

It should be at the back of the house.
