Sink Faucet Installation Advice

I have a sink that has a faucet on it that is a 3 hole. I want to replace the current faucet with a single hole faucet. I am thinking that there is some sort of plates that you can use that cover the extra holes for purposes such as this? Am I dreaming this or correct?

You should be able to buy one with the new tap, if it doesn't come in the same box.

I acquired the new faucet used(practically new) but has no box or any additional parts. What is the plate called that I am looking for?

Pretty sure there are "plugs" that will mount into the dead holes.
A real Plumbing Supply House would have them, maybe not a Big Box store.

Look at the bottom front of the spout for a name.

We can not see what sink or faucet your talking about without some pictures.
Is it a kitchen, or bathroom faucet?
With the right faucet to do a retrofit the base would be wide enough to cover up those old holes.

They are usually called an escutcheon or a deck plate. As others stated, you will want to locate manufacturer and model number to get one that fits correctly. Best bet is to reach out to manufacturer to verify what model you have and have them set you up with the correct escutcheon/deck plate.

Cheers,
