Shower water line vibrates

For some reason the few weeks our 2nd floor shower seems to pulse/vibrate for a while when turned on. We've lived in the house for about 8yrs and it never really did this before. There are a few times I can recall it acting this way for a moment when the toilet was flushed, but it'd go away quickly. Now it seems like it does it almost every day when the water is turned on, it stops if you turn the water fully on and then back it off.

For what it's worth, most of the house is PEX, but the line going to the 2nd floor that supplies the shower and toilet are copper. I'm guessing this is a water hammer effect, but not sure why it started, nor how I can make it go away.

Remove the shower head and replace it or let it soak in some CLR.

If that doesn't work, change the cartridge in the mixer valve.

I'm willing to bet if that's the case, the cartridge is the issue. The shower head seems fine and doesn't appear to be clogged, but about the time this started happening it also seems that I can't turn the valve up as high without getting extremely hot water. (i.e. Before to have 'normal' hot water, I'd turn the valve 3/4 of the way on, now if I turn it half way it's too hot. Haven't changed the setting on the Hot Water Tank.

Sounds like the pressure balancer in the valve is kaput.
