Shower/Tub faucets not working correctly

Hello friends,

I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. As you know, I recently purchased a home.

It is an older home, about ~10 years old, so it needs some work.

In one of the bathrooms, when I turn on the shower, the water from the bottom spout (the one that fills the tub) continues to pour.

I have raised the lever on that spout, which should divert the flow completely to the shower, but it does not.

See pics below.

I presume some part(s) need to be replaced, or maybe it is a plumbing issue, or both?

Can someone please guide me?

Thank you very much,
Oxonian

Just replace the spout with a new one.
Look on the bottom of it to see if there's a hole in the bottom, if so there's a set screw that needs to be backed out to remove it. (could be metric)
No hole then it needs to unscrewed, facing it, lefty loosey.

Re: Shower/Tub faucets not working correctly

Thank you joecaption, I appreciate it.

Is there a particular size of spout I need, or are they pretty much standard?

I took a look at the website of a big box store, and it seems that there are numerous tub spouts with diverter for $15-20.

Are there any brands which are better? I will put this in the guest room, so if I am replacing it, then I might as well get a nicer one.

Do I need to turn of the water supply when I change the spout?

Sorry for the basic questions, I am grateful for your help.

Re: Shower/Tub faucets not working correctly

I'd just pull out the diverter plate from the faucet and check the rubber gasket.

I prefer to install faucets so they can withstand being used as a shaving shelf. I use a threaded brass shower socket mounted stoutly to wood. I use a brass threaded pipe that is the proper length so that the faucet tightens up snug to the tile when square. There should be no flex or play in the faucet, even when stepped on. I don't use plastic faucets.
