Shower leaking downstairs intermittently

What are all the possible causes?

The caulking looks fine.

Could it be the Moen cartridge?

Why does the drain look off center? Is there a hand held shower head? Look at the plate behind the mixer valve. Is it caulked?

Not handheld, but why does that matter?

I'm not at the property, but I'm guessing that plate behind the valve should be caulked?

Most likely leaking where the shower arm screws into the drop ell.

Pull the escutcheon around the show arm away from the wall and using a flashlight look in the hole for signs of water.

If the valve is on an interior wall cut a hole on the back side and have a look.

Handheld matters because I've seen the water run down the hose & drip behind the plate behind the mixer valve. That's why I mentioned both.

Re: Shower leaking downstairs intermittently

calking never lasts so
never assume the calking is fine
in fact usually opposite is truer
cut out & remove all
clean with proper chems to ensure area clean & new calk bonds
pay special attention to corners and around door where water can pool or be trapped
an improperly installed calk job can make things worse even if it looks fine
this is regular maintenance and best place to start your elimination process

Peace
