Sealing exhaust penetration in block wall

I recently replaced my water heater and had to remove the exhaust in the process (gas water heater) It vents into the chimney along with my boiler. The previous owners used some material that flaked off and now I have this:

I have used the quickrete patch before in the past with good results, but given there will be heat involved here I am not sure if that will work. Can I use great stuff? Something else?

Ayuh,.... I'd use no-shrink grout to patch that up,...... But,....

I don't think it's legal to vent 2 appliances into a single flue,....

NS grout, reg. mortar, or refractory mortar will work. No great stuff.

It's ok to vent the furnace and HW tank into the same chimney. Where you have a problem is when you upgrade the furnace to HE, and strand the HW by itself into the chimney. Alone, the HW will not generate enough heat to keep the clay liner dry.

You can not combine any gas appliance vent with a fire burning exhaust, like coal, wood, pellets, etc.

Got any specific recommendations?

I just have to be careful when applying because I donít want any material to fall into the boiler exhaust.

This is in a chimney shared with my wood burning fireplace but in a separate flu.
