salt level is not dropping in water softener

Hi all,

I have a whirlpool water softener in which the brine tank and resin tank are together. I just recently replaced all the old salt as it was one solid block and put in 3 bags of new solar salt. The salt level is now sitting at the just below the number 5.

I followed the manual verbatim to start everything over so it did have 3 gallons of water. Everything sounds normal when it regenerates but now it is saying that the salt level is at 2 but the actual salt hasn't moved. What am I doing wrong or is there coming up with the softener itself?

Thanks in advance

Re: salt level is not dropping in water softener

When you rejenerate.... does the salt tank fill up with water.....

I think the salt level meter does not actually measure the salt level, but just estimates it from rejeneration use.... I think you just reset it.

Or the salt could be bridging... take a stick and poke it to see if you have a bridge.

I just added new salt 3 days ago and it doesn't seem to be filling up with water during a regen. I just cleaned the venturi also.

Re: salt level is not dropping in water softener

I'm not familiar with Whirlpool, but rough math says that your machine is trying to tell you that after one regeneration it consumed rough 60% of the salt (5 -> 2). That doesn't sound right. We have another make and only add 20kg of salt about 3 times a year (2 people). I regularly stir the salt tank to keep it from bridging and loosen up the hard pack at the bottom.

If the brine tank isn't taking on water during the cycles it is supposed to, it may be the supply tube or whatever supplies water to the tank (blocked, kinked, etc.). There may also be a float assembly that needs to be adjusted properly and move freely.

Does your water 'feel' soft? If it is actually using that much salt it should be the closest thing to distilled.
