S-trap leak

I hooked up a new basement vanity sink install a simple S-trap. I am having water come out of the top of down tube. I am thinking maybe I just need to cut off the down tube shorter. Any thoughts.

Re: S-trap leak

S traps are not compliant, you should have installed a P trap. +1 on the picture.

Re: S-trap leak

I appreciate all the responses. Upon further inspection apparently the down tube from the vanity that had been out of the box had a loose nut, tighten that and tighten everything else. Again this is a basement bathroom that is being redone, I was not aware the S-trap was not compliant.
