Most are squashed/ruined/full of bad stuff etc. Wear disposable gloves. To reshape old one is more work than removing it. If adding tile or thicker tile when doing new floor, get a thicker ring. Kind with plastic (rubber boot type) bottom that inserts into drainpipe works well.
I haven't used the retrofit ones, but I did put in a Toto in my house that uses the rubber boot. Since it was our only toilet in the house it was really nice to be able to quickly reinstall the toilet when needed and then pull it again to keep working there.
It's been in for years and no problems so far with it, knock on wood!
and, i plan to put some kind of lube on the male part and inside the flange.
so, in theory, it would come out easier. soap, white grease, Vaseline, ???
I have been using this Korky ring for several years now in my rentals. I have often set and reset during remodels. No wax, no glue, no clean up required after first install.
Never had one leak. I don't care if it cost 10 time that of a wax ring, I will never use wax again. https://www.korky.com/products/wax-free-gaskets/wax-free-toilet-seal-kit
i saw those at the store yesterday. i wondered about them, as they have foam. and the sani-seals have foam. though, i think, in my case, i would need to remove the foam, idk. anyway, i should i even need another one, i will look much closer at those.
yeah, that could be. but from what i gathered, the positive reviews were from people who "set it and forget it". the negative reviews, with pics, were from DIY guys like us.
believe me, i love that design. but from what i have seeen, what it is made out of isn't the greatest.
anyway, i am going to use the one i have. just have to paint behind the crapper. then i can set it.
