replacing garbage disposal

I am replacing my badger insinkerator with a waste king garbage disposal. I have a composite granite sink. There is a rubber gasket to go under the sink flange to be used with stainless steel sinks. It says all other sinks require plumbers putty. I heard that you should not use plumbers putty with granite because it will stain. should I use something else & if so what? thanks!

Hi Vickie, welcome to DIY Chatroom.
Putty can be used against stainless steel, but not against stone. To be safe, I would use silicone in your case. Apply a bead to the bottom of the flange, press it into the sink hole then tighten from below.
Clean off excess silicon from the flange and sink.
As for the rubber seal- in my opinion it gets tossed regardless of the type of sink.....

By the way, I moved your question to the plumbing board. Maybe another plumber will come along with more tips for ya

Make sure it is 100% silicon and not water based silicon.
