Replace Water Heater

I know I am supposed to turn off main water and turn off gas and then drain tank. But Does anyone know if I am supposed to open all faucets or not to drain the house lines prior to rolling out the old tank?

Re: Replace Water Heater

Opening up a faucet on the upper floor will make the draining much quicker since it will allow air above the water and drain the lines at the same time.

Re: Replace Water Heater

Stick a drinking straw in a glass of water. Put your thumb on the end of the straw and pull it out. See how much water comes out. Remove your thumb and watch how much water come out.

Same thing applies to the water heater and pipes. The water can't come out unless the air can come in.

Depends on the faucet. If it has a vacuum breaker it won't help.
Open one such as a tub.
