Replace Shower Knob with Handle

I would like to convert my single circular shower knob to a handle type. It is the original knob from 1995 (needs a cleaning). It is a Price Pfister. Do I have to remove the piping behind the wall (a lot of work), or can I buy a new handle type that will fit the existing setup?

I also will add that the installed single circular knob I have turns left and right to adjust the temperature, and pull in and out to adjust the water flow. It is not the easiest to use. I would like to change it to a handle like the one in the photo, but not sure if it will adjust the temperature and flow correctly, since it doesn't look like the handle pulls out to adjust the water flow.

I know what you mean, seems a little outdated.

Call or go online and ask price phister directly and explain to them your situation. They may be able to help. If not, you may have to change out the valve to do what you want.

Do you have access from the back? If so, and depending on your skills, it shouldn't be too hard to change it out with another one that will do what you want.

Please wait for the plumbers to respond, they will have more suggestions/advice. Thanks.

I checked online and it looks like to interface is common for Price Phister. I should be able to just buy the handle separately, and it should come with an adapter to fit. I may just order the item and see if it fits. I don't want to replace the plumbing since it looks like a lot of work. There isn't much space to work once I remove the faceplate.
