Replace Galvanized Drain lines?

If walls are open, should an old (20-60 yrs) but seemingly good condition metal pipe drain & vent (1.5 inch) be replaced with plastic ABS/PVC? Or is it likely to last for another twenty or forty years?

It is a 1.5 line straight up from the basement. If we should replace it, is it fairly easy to replace the part where it goes through the roof? Can we just use the existing pipe through the roof and connect with a fernco or shielded coupling, or will the plastic pipe not support a length of metal pipe?

Thoughts?

Re: Replace Galvanized Drain lines?

Galvanized drains tend to clog a lot more then the plastic DWV piping. Because of corrosion build up inside the pipe. I would suggest replacing it out the roof and install a new roof flashing they are easy to do.
