Remove old cast iron pipe held in by a fernco gasket

HI, I need to remove a pipe held in by a fernco gasket to shorten a cleanout pipe but the gasket won't budge. I tried to lift the pipe off, I drilled the edge of the gasket but nothing seems to penetrate this old gasket. If you know of a way to remove a pipe that is in a fernco gakset, I would appreciate the advice. Thank you.

Is it a gasket or a coupling? Can you post some pics?

Usually a long blade screw driver pushed under it and pried out a bit will work. Insert the screwdriver as you go around the pipe parallel to it.

Space the inserting of the screwdriver about an inch apart and go all the way around the pipe prying up on the gasket, to breaks its bond to the pipe.JMO

Only done it once and hope never again. Cut the pipe flush with the gasket, stuff a rag or two in the pipe to keep bad stuff from going down the drain, then either cut or break the pipe. Cast iron pipe will shatter if hit often enough. The trick is to break what you want to break.

A diamond wheel will cut the pipe if you can get it inside the pipe.
