Question about installing an outdoor hose bib

I am installing an exterior hose bib. I have two questions.

My first question has to do with if there are any codes/requirements about its location. I am running the pipe from a bathroom. On the exterior wall of the bathroom is the gas line and gas meter. Does the bib need to be a certain distance from the meter/gas line?

My second question has to do about what pipe I can splice the outdoor line from. Unfortunately the bathroom sink is blocked by the exterior wall to my sun room. Can I run it from the toilet pipes?

I've attached a picture to better illustrate. The window is right above the toilet. The sink is to the left of the meter and within the sun room.

Re: Question about installing an outdoor hose bib

The gas meter is not an code issue. Yes you can use the toilet supply.

Re: Question about installing an outdoor hose bib

If your crawlspace is accessible, I would tap into a full 1/2" or 3/4" line. Don't use the toilet's small supply tube as a source. Use the pipe coming ahead of the stop valve, which would probably be 1/2".

Re: Question about installing an outdoor hose bib

If you can find a 3/4" main supply line, it will have twice the flow of a 1/2" line.

Re: Question about installing an outdoor hose bib

Around here, you won't be in a gas code violation with the gas line and meter. Make sure that you seal the hole nicely.

Electrical would be a different story.

Cheers!
