Question

Pressure Drop from Kitchen Sink

Hi all- just moved into a fairly new (only 3 years old) house, and having issues with the water pressure dropping at the kitchen sink. The water runs fine, but then after a couple minutes, the water pressure drops (regardless of whether it's hot or cold).

We don't notice the issue from any of our other fixtures, but still trying to determine whether it's the faucet itself (cartridge?) or an issue downstream somewhere. If there was an issue with the sink itself, wouldn't it have lower pressure all the time, instead of starting out at normal pressure? Here's a video of what happens:

Any insight or things to check for would be appreciated, thanks!

Re: Pressure Drop from Kitchen Sink

Check to see if you are still under waranty from builder first. Let them do it.

If not, Its isolated to just this faucet, so check the obvious things first.

Turn water off to supply lines, remove each supply line, hold into bucket turn water back on make sure you have good pressure. If not, replace supply lines.

Make sure aerator/cartdrige is clean. From the video it sounds like sediment build up in aerator or cartdrige. May just need a good cleaning/flushing.

See if there is a water saver washer in the aerator that can be removed. Just a few suggestions.

Re: Pressure Drop from Kitchen Sink

Is your water supplied from city or a well?
Do you know if you've a pressure reducing valve in the supply line?

City of Philadelphia supplied. Not sure about a pressure reducing valve, where do those typically sit? And wouldn't that be constant, rather than normal pressure which then drops?

To the other poster- we are the second owners of the home, so don't have a warranty from the builder. Thanks for the other suggestions- will try those.

Re: Pressure Drop from Kitchen Sink

pressure reducing valve likely is near where the water supply from street comes in. I believe these can sometimes go "bad" to cause this kind of effect. But if only 3 years old unlikely.
It looks like this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Zurn-Wilkins-3-4-in-Lead-Free-Bronze-Water-Pressure-Reducing-Valve-with-Double-Union-Female-Copper-Sweat-34-70XLDUC/203999031?cm_mmc=Shopping%7cTHD%7cG%7c0%7cG-VF-PLA-D26P-

I have a similar issue that isn't as pronounced as your drop. Have you asked one of your neighbors to see if the same thing happens to them?
