Pex insert into broken main

I have a broken water main between the wellhead and the house. the run is about 50 feet and break is about 10 foot from the well. It is old black poly pipe that has been in the ground at least 30 years. My problem is that the pipe goes under my driveway (which I have already cut and dug out to find the leak) then under a slab porch into the basement. The poly pipe is 7/8" ID so to temp fixed it I cut the broken section out, used a piece of 3/4" poly and inserted it into the removed section and pipe clamped the hell out of it to get water back to the house. Question is... Do you think I can insert 1/2" pex tubing into the original poly without much loss of flow. It is a typical well and expansion tank setup in a single family home. 2 1/2 bath and all the typical appliances. 2 adults and 2 kids 10 and older. Thinking 1/2" because its been in the ground so long it may be pushed down in spots and I don't think I could force through a 3/4 pex tube. Thanks!

Re: Pex insert into broken main

You would end up with more than 1/2 the flow you have now.

Re: Pex insert into broken main

Get the same size poly and join with the barbed couplings.
