No Room Beneath Soaker - extended P Trap?

I am installing a soaker tub in an area where the joists directly below cannot be cut. We are building a platform under the tub however I want this to be as short as possible.

If we put the P Trap directly below the drain we have a 10" platform.

If we run a pipe from the drain approx. 38" toward the wall I can put the P Trap there and then run to the vent and lower the platform to nearly 4".

Is there an issue with having the trap a certain distance from the drain so long as the horizontal pipe is on a decline/fall from drain to trap?

Thank you!

Re: No Room Beneath Soaker - extended P Trap?

I'd even take a general answer to the question: can you extend from a drain several feet at a decline and then have the ptrap?

Thanks! We need to work on the platform immediately!

you have drawn a running trap which does not meet code due to siphonage issues...behaves like an s-trap... google s-trap issues
raise the platform and install P trap at tub.

what is total linear distance from tub drain to vent pipe? and what will be total fall of pipe from top of trap (at the tub) to top off horizontal inlet of (vent) tee? answers to above could still indicate issues due to exceeding max distance & or drop between trap and vent fitting also creating a S-trap

Peace

Interesting. After looking on Google the S trap issue looks like when you have 2 P-traps curving into the vent. Here it would be a 38" or so pipe declining to a single P Trap, then further pipe declining toward a dump into the vent stack. Does that still mean it's like an S-Trap?

I've added several pictures to help you understand the layout and am VERY grateful for your help! We're on a deadline for inspection very soon and I'm uncomfortable with my plumber's knowledge base now...

Total distance from the Drain to the vent is 108".

I cannot measure the drop yet (need another hand) but what are the legal parameters for drop at that distance?

THANK YOU

Re: No Room Beneath Soaker - extended P Trap?

before installing tub drain with a schedule 40 P-trap
where pipe passes through 2X4 wall cavity install a long sweep tee...
from that tee either run a vent vertically out roof or install an air admittance valve...assuming you have access to this valve for maintenance...
your 2" connection is not a vent stack but rather a cleanout so technically you need access to that fitting connection also.

Peace

Re: No Room Beneath Soaker - extended P Trap?

Thank you! (Dr. P)

Adding the Tee and Admittance valve is doable -- but I assume you still recommend that the trap is directly below the tub and cannot be installed several feet from the drain center?

At this point my only other concern is the drop -- if it's 108" from Drain to cleanout what are my restrictions for the max/min drop of the branch/arm.

thank you again!

yes - trap @ tub under drain overflow assembly....
max distance between trap and vent depends on code version
most restrictive max distance is 3' 6"... most generous is 6'0" max
drop should not exceed 1/4" fall per foot...
your plumber should know which it is
you're welcome

Peace
