I do not have much experience working on pluming but am willing to try if possible, or would someone need to be called?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Need help fixing faucet

Yes I believe the handle broke and pliers were used to turn on and off.
My question is what all needs to be replaced?
Will I need specialized tools to do this repair?
I was guessing the cartridge needs replaced but I'm not sure how to remove it.

Re: Need help fixing faucet

What you have is a moen faucet. In your top picture you can see the clip with a hole underneath the chrome cover. That is what you need to remove to remove the cartridge. The chrome cover just slips straight off. You can contact moen for a free cartridge they give a life time warranty. 1-800-289-6636

In a replacement cartridge you will see a little plastic thingy. It is used to twist the cartridge right to left so you can hopefully extract it once the clip has been removed.
They can be a true pain to get removed because they tend to stick in the valve.

Re: Need help fixing faucet

If the white plastic "thingy" doesnt allow you to pull out the cartrige, you can buy a tool to do it. It acts like a gear puller. A screw on the tool screws into the stem of tje cartridge and uou then turn the collar of the tool and the cartridge comes out. You can definitely buy the tool at a plumbing supply house but i am not sure if the big box stores sell it.

I've looked into that tool some and only problem I see is you have to actually screw the end of it into the stem of the cartridge witch I don't think will work here seeing as the end is smushed flat.
I was able to get the cartridge to spin a quarter turn in either direction using the white tool. But am still not able to just pull it out.

Re: Need help fixing faucet

Thinking out loud... Since the existing cartridge is already ruined, you might try screwing a drywall screw into the old hole which will give you a handle. Then use vice grip pliers to attach to that screw head and twist and pull. You also might try spraying some wd40 or similar to lubeicate it. To be clear, you DID remkve the chrome sleeve and the horseshoe shaped retainer, correct?

Re: Need help fixing faucet

I ended up just using some lubricant and lots of pulling and wiggling, all the rubber had ripped off and wedged the cartridge in even tighter I think but it eventually broke free and came out. Hopefully the install of the new parts will be more easy now.
Thanks for all the help.

Re: Need help fixing faucet

Thats fine. Moen may send a small packet of silicone plumbers grease with the new cartridge. Of not go to home depot and get some. Grease yhe new cartridge well before inserting it. If hot and cold are reversed after installing the new cartridge, remove it again and turn it 180 degrees. If it comes with directions pay attention to the picture for installation. The stem will have a small "step" on the end. From memory, I believe that step should be in the top position but look closely at the instructions to be sure.
