Hi guys, I want to change my Kohler toilet. Do any of you have a good idea?

I installed an American Standard Champion 4 (from Home Depot) about a year ago and would choose it again.

Which is the toilet that demonstrates its flushing ability by flushing a small bucket of golf balls?

Re: The myth of best toilet - need your advise

Our American Standard Champion 4 is sitting in my shed waiting to be taken to the dump in the spring. Handful of years old. Kept leaking from the tank into the bowl. Tried several recommendations to fix that problem, nothing worked. Replaced parts, etc. After a search on the internet, I found that almost all models of toilet from AS have the same problem. A lot of people complaining about it and the company is doing absolutely nothing.

The issue actually ended up in a class action lawsuit down in the US as the company knowingly was selling those things with problems.

When I got in touch with them for suggestions, they wanted my receipt which after 4 or 5 years I didn't have. Who keeps a receipt for a toilet for 5 years? The customer service rep I was speaking to said they couldn't even discuss remedies with me unless I emailed them a scan of my receipt.

Replaced it with a different toilet which cost half the price, uses the old fashioned flapper rather than the stupid new 'tower' flushing thing. Been a happy pooper ever since.

Sounds like it's a good thing I have an email copy of my receipt stored.

I never buy toilets with proprietary flush or fill valves.

Re: The myth of best toilet - need your advise

I'm thinking of splurging myself and getting the TOTO G500.

Anyone have good experience with these high-tech toilets?

It was recommended on this website here

Here is the amazon link

My parents had two toilets that wouldn't flush very well. They replaced both with Toto brand and have not had any issues ever since. They swear by Toto brand toilets.

Re: The myth of best toilet - need your advise

The G500 isn't a standard Toto toilet.
It's a combination toilet/washlet.

If that's what you want go for it. But you are not going to find many people that have experience with it. People willing to spend $2000-$3000 for a toilet to wash and dry their rear end seem to be a minority group.

Re: The myth of best toilet - need your advise

Have had great success with 3 installs of American Standard Cadet 3.
It is a 1 piece that appears more modern (so no leaks at bowl/tank connection).

You might be able to pull up spec sheets. Mine says 7301123-100SP Rev D.
For the DIYer, a little heavier when lowering onto closet flange.

1.6 Gallons per flush but excellent push. Limited 5 year warranty.
Elongated style. Soft close seat. Slightly higher (height, maybe price too) than most.

Got from Home Depot but only online. Wait for a sale if interested. Got my notice from my dealnews.com account. About $250 as I recall. Probably the American Standard 2403.813 with standard, easy to get to outboard flange bolts.

Yeah, but who ****s golf balls? Lol.

I have tried a few different toilets in the last few years as I change out some older Mansfields that work fine but are 3.5 gpf. The one I like best is a Gerber Viper. Flushes very well and fairly quiet. Haven't tried golf balls with it but I have tried more pertinent test material.

Re: The myth of best toilet - need your advise

My daughter just bought 3 AS because they have straight sides on base. A relative recommended them because no curve to clean.

I like my Kohlers.
