Mystery toilet

My daughter has an older home with mixed materials for pipes and a toilet that doesn't completely empty when it is flushed. Eventually everything disappears and the toilet never backs up. So far the vent and clean out have been checked and there are no blockages. Does any one have a similar experience?

Re: Mystery toilet

Had one that worked intermittently between poor abd very poor, but it worked. Finally I wen at it with the plunger and special snake and somewhere inbetween plunging and snaking I saw the handle of a tooth brush just barely visible. Cringing I quickly reached in and grabbed it before it decided to hide again.

Problems solved but there are other items that can get trapped in that toilet elbow and just reduce the flushing process.

Just a thought.

Re: Mystery toilet

Had a rental with similar symptoms.

Ran the toilet augur ( snake), in it got a RAT- TAILED comb out of it.

Flowed fine afterward.

Re: Mystery toilet

For now, advise users to hold handle down (by hand) just a bit longer than it would ordinarily. Should allow a better flush.

Re: Mystery toilet

The jets that allow water in the bowl can get clogged over time. That limits the water into the bowl which takes longer to flush. Dump a couple gallons in the bowl and see if it goes down faster.
