Move bathroom sink drain

Need to move bathroom drain plumbing to accommodate a new vanity. Photo shows what I have now. I need to move the pipe coming out of the wall over about 3 inches. Can I just cut out the existing tee joint, put in a new one rotated 90 degrees to the left (using mission-type couplings?), and then add an elbow to bring it through the wall where I need it?

You might not have to do all that work.

Re: Move bathroom sink drain

Thanks. Unfortunately I can't have the pipe coming out of the wall where it currently is as it will interfere with the drawers of the new vanity. I need to somehow relocate the point where the pipe meets the wall 3 inches to the left.

Re: Move bathroom sink drain

Can you exchange the vanity for something w/ drawers on the other side? When I enlarged a bathroom for my father, I knew that I was going to have to choose a vanity to fit the plumbing. It's easier than fitting the plumbing to the vanity.

No, I did a ton of research before buying this one. Drawers on the other side would be even worse. I'm moving from a 29" vanity with no drawers to a 31" with drawers. I looked at dozens of vanities but could not find any that worked with the existing plumbing.

Re: Move bathroom sink drain

You're putting a vanity in covering that drywall....

I'd take out enough drywall to access that drain/vent and use a couple of 45 bends on each vertical of the drain/vent to jockey the entire sanT over 3". I think the offsets of two 45's would be about 3"... though I don't have any here to go measure.

And repair the drywall patch.... it's gonna be behind the vanity.

Re: Move bathroom sink drain

Good idea, that makes sense and sounds like it would be easier than my first idea. Thanks!

YES Key is mission or proflex band couplings.
