Moen Shower Control Doesn't Have a Hard Stop to Turn Off Water

I've recently purchased a used house with the main bathroom shower having a moen fixture that you have to point the knob up to turn the water off. Turn left for hot water, right for cold. Was this fixture installed correctly? This is the first time I ran into a fixture that doesn't have an easy stop position. My fear is my guest will break the knob trying to turn if off to the right or left. Here's a picture of the fixture.

Thank you,

You are missing a part--remove the handle --there should be a plastic stop collar under the handle--call Moen---they will send you one.

Take a picture of the valve for use--someone here will tell you the model of the valve.

It should turn right to left cold to hot and not turn to the left to right at all.

Doesn't that version of Moen pull out for flow control and left/right for temperature?

Thanks for all your feedback. I've taken the knob off, separated the parts, removed the back plate and took pictures of everything.
I placed green tape to show the top of the picture. I did not removed the cartridge. Hopefully the picture is enough.
What parts am I missing? Is it the right cartridge?
Thanks for all your help. You are all wonderful. Will Moen really send me the right replacement/fix it parts?

Looks like you missing the two plastic parts in the stop tube kit.

Link is to the parts breakdown.

What they do is control how hot the faucet can get. Once you get them set the faucet to 110F to 120 F with the temperature stops.

43 C to 49 C

Not this one. Moen makes one called a posi-temp, and another called a moentrol. I get the names mixed up, but I believe this one is the positemp, they don't pull out, just turn counterclockwise for on. The other does pull out for on and off, turns for temp adjustment.

The old Chateau model pulled out. The crystal handle was common with them. If the OP wanted to change- other handles and trim are available.

Here's the final report on this issue.
I emailed the pictures to Moen. I received a detailed reply back the next day.
Turns out my problem was that the Positemp cartridge upside down.
Once corrected and the metal sleeve installed the knob only turned 270 degrees (9:00 -->6:00).
The off position is at 6:00.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
