Light weight garbage disposal?

I have problems with my undermount sink (stainless steel) falling down from the granite
I will replace it anyway (it's old and dirty) and ask the contractor who originally installed it to make sure it's properly secured this time...
If I were to replace the garbage disposal as well, can I find a "light weight" one?

Thanks

Re: Light weight garbage disposal?

I have never heard of a garbage disposal being the reason and undermount sink failed. Sounds more like the sink was never installed correctly.

The sink is likely to experience more stress via a poorly balanced and engineered unit as it shakes the sink. If it were really just the weight, a small pedestal to support the disposal would solve the problem, but again, I don't think it was the disposal's fault.

Not saying it's the disposal fault...Just asking if there are light weight disposal models

WoW is right. Your sink is installed incorrectly or the sink metal gauge is too thin and allowing for vibration to pull the sink loose.

I can't say one brand of disposal is lighter than another. Perhaps their websites can tell you that. But WoW's pedestal idea is not new. It's done on large commercial units all the time.
