Kohler valve & white tube

Ghost flushing. As suggested here I put food dye in tank an 3 hrs later it leaked into bowl. Watched Utube and see that Kohler has a ring gasket so hope it gies well. I'll buy the yellow ring. I've replaced the other kind of flapper.

While I'm going to the store wanted to see if I need to buy anything else. Sometimes it doesn't sound right when flushing. I take lid off and that white tube that delivers water has popped out of the canister. I shove it into the hole an its stays for a week. We have bad water. This happens in both 5 yo toilets.

First problem. Any hints?

Can't get canister out. Tried turning it left a little an it wont turn. When I force it I start to hear a cracking noise

You might have to remove the tank. Usually two bolts will do it. Most repair kits come with new bolts and rubber gaskets for this purpose.

I don't think I can remove tank. The other bathroom is across the house. I'll just switch bedrooms.

I don't have any spare parts.

you have to push down with constant force on canister while turning left...
but sometimes they do break... replacement parts are found @ H/Depot
Place a little silicone grease on end of piston so next time it may come apart easier...

Edit: you may need new tube & or replacement piston if tube will not stay

Peace

Re: Kohler valve & white tube

I know what you mean with the fill tube(white). When the toilet flushes, that outside canister raises and knocks the white tube off. Happened to our toilets about once a month.

I tried two remedies, in one toilet a small bead of silicone caulk where tube connects, and in another toilet a candy cane wrap of duct tape. Duct tape works best. Put it on a few months ago and has not happened since. Only need about 1/4 inch strip.

Kohler has a bad design with this model toilet IMO

Re: Kohler valve & white tube

Gentlemen, thank you.
Success. I used more force and that worked. I figured I didn't have anything to lose. The rubber ring was really gummy. It was tedious putting canister back on as it was hard to line up. I wish I'd known and wouldn't have bought this model. I checked my daughters 3 AS today an they have the normal flappers. When I was property manager I changed flappers when my maintenance men were off. Easier than convincing tenants to wait.

I bought these models cause the lid design was attractive. Never again.
