Irrigation Pump Connections

The image shows my irrigation pump connections. I like that the pump is not "glued in." For the purposes of replacing the pump, the threaded fittings make it easier for maintenance. This worked for about a year but then the pump began sucking air.

I'm looking for advice on a possible solution to allow for pump maintenance without having to cut pipe and reglue fittings. I did not choose the location for the pump. Let's just say I inherited it.

I don't believe there are any leaks in the suction pipe below the fitting as when I disconnect the fittings, there is water at the top of the suction side and it doesn't go down.

The fittings I have in place now I think are the problem.

Thanks in advance.
